Simon Stålenhag, art in pure state.

Post by Juanjo_LS on 23rd October 2017, 15:46

Well, I usually don't share this kind of news but in this case I'm impressed by this artist.. really impressed.

I love the futurist concept and his imagination to represent it and of course the detail of every element giving life to each painting.

But a picture is worth a thousand words:

You can see all the works in his official website:

Do you like it?

It's beautiful, I like it! Is it 2d or 3d? When he shows the zoom details on his website, it looks like it is painted with brushes! Incredible  cyclops

Thanks for sharing Juanjo, it's a good discovery!
At first I didn't read his name correcty. Instead I read Steven Stahlberg which his totally different Cool I let you search Terrible Joke

Yeah, the detail is incredible! But I'm not sure if it's 2d traditional painting or 2D digital painting...

Modified 3d? Unless he uses a special technique for rendering. Anyway it's amazing! I'd love to be able to do that. Imagine the same result in a game!

I think it's 2D, I understand that he is an illustrator, my doubt is if he paint in a classic way (with canvas, brushes...) or use Photoshop (or any other software) and digital tablet.

Anyway his work is hypnotizing... I love it.

I cannot imagine this effect in a game... it would be amazing!

I wonder if he's not using 3d has a starting point, and paint over it?

It's possible.
As a base, to help with compositions, perspectives, etc.
But even if he use 3D has starting point, it's still a very impressive work !

This is just class work!
This brings me back memories of work done from the very late 70's into early 90's which fell out of fashion as neo-realism and super-realism (together with the drive to 3d imagery in video games) came in.
I just like it a lot!

I realise that I already knew the work of this artist (not the newest pics however). Someone else must have already talked of him on these forums, or shared the info with me in private (about his past kickstarter maybe?). I thought that it was Roger who told me, but it would seem that you (Roger) are also discovering it for the first time?

It would seem that this artist is very famous!

I agree with Roger, it reminds me of those decades and bring to my mind movies like Blade Runner (original movie).

I have just found out that it was me who raised the issue before.
