I think so. Well done Juanjo! It takes some time to create all these pages on different sites. I'll focus on IndieDB for Boïnihi, I don't think I need GameJolt if I plan to release the game on itch.io only.

Thanks!

I think IndieDB, Itch.io and Game Jolt are the three essential platforms for indie devs.

If I'm honest I don't like Steam and his abusive rules but I must to say that this platform is the most important for sales. So if you don't expect great sales Steam is not a good idea in my opinion.

My idea is to focus on IndieDB, Itch.io and Game Jolt... and I'm not to sure to use other platforms like IndieGameStand. I'm doing this game to see how far I'm able to get, not for the sales. But if I earn some money better! xDD

I definitely agree Juanjo! I for one choose to visit those sites because the community is more about Indie devs and supporting them. Don't get me wrong though Steam is a great way to get a lot of attention if you get greenlight. But I think those sites are a much better choice for any indie dev.

I know that the Black Cube series wouldn't have "succeeded" without Steam. So many people care about this platform, they want their games on it in their library. The Steam keys are very famous and a lot of people love to receive new keys.
For me the main problem of Steam is that they take 30% of the sales, which is just huge. As I said somewhere else, if your banker was taking 30% of your monthly revenues, you'd certainly change of bank. With Steam there is no choice, you can't change of place if you want a bit of exposure for your game.

You need to know that 90% or more of my sales happened on Steam. That is why I am still interested in this place to sell my games. I've never been a big Steam user, never bought lots of games. I prefer GOG but they never wanted to publish my games Terrible Joke

That being said, I also much prefer smaller shops like itch.io and GameJolt (and IndieDB but we can't sell there, can we?).
The problem of these sites is that there is few done to give you visibility/exposure. I mean, if you don't have a strong marketing campain, you'll never reach a public. ASA and Catyph have been on itch.io for months (since the release of Catyph the game was there), but I sold less than 10 copies (I think?) despite a lower price than on Steam. (Because itch.io doesn't take 30%, I can affort to sell the game for a smaller price.)

Anyway all of it is more a business strategy. If you think, Juanjo, that selling quantities of games doesn't matter, which I agree, then you don't need to be on Steam. The smaller/indie market places such as itch.io and GameJolt are great and need to be encouraged more and more by smaller devs. They need to grow, expand, improve themselves more and more (but shouldn't become as big as GOG or Steam! Or they'll do the same business). GameJolt has made a lot of efforts in the past few months and it is totally going in the good way!

Personally I decided to try to make games for a living, so I need to increase my sales if I want to continue (even if I don't try to become rich, I don't really care about money, it's only a necessity), and so Steam cannot be avoided for my main projects up to date. On the other hand for smaller projects such as Boïnihi I'm going to try to release on itch.io (and GameJolt maybe). I won't reach a lot of people and the game will remain quite 'hidden' on the web, but at least it's only my real followers and Myst-fans who will download it and play it. Because on Steam you never know who will play your game, and it often happens that many people complain because it was not at all what they expected...

I'll stop right here, just wanted to share my past experience until now. Maybe it will evolve in the future, I'll let you know Wink

I totally agree with Simon and Josiah.

Anyway I don't know how it will be the reception of Blue Moon by the people, maybe it is very successful and I have to put it on Steam and GOG xDDD (it's a joke).
